when the light goes outI explored how poetry and historical records can interact simultaneously within a book. Using several of W.H. Auden’s poems in conjunction with Ian Phillip’s essay, Attention to the Passage of Time, I played with the contrast of the analytical language of time used by Phillip and the romantic metaphors used by Auden through different typographic arrangements. As you flip through each page, the book shifts into darkness, conveying the essence of time slipping away.
